the modern age - yeecck! its ickyness in general

ok, ive had a somewhat random, probably completely left field odd thought.

ive been thinking alot about this whole idea of love at first sight. this is most likely a symptom of the thousands of american teen movies pouring this idea down our necks at a rate of knots. we've basically been conditioned to beleive in the idea that there is one person wandering around who is perfectly matched to you, and when you see them, you just know somehow.

now, being the cynical human being that i am, i can safely say that that is a load of tripe. its like hallmark sentiment, cheesy and touted on badly made card. in the words of someone or other "what an absolute crock!".

but, for the sake of arguement, what if true love did exist? ive come to the discovery that if such a thing did exist, we're going far too quickly for it. no, wait, hear me out, where do you famously see this whole 'love at first sight' stuff? thats right, jane austen, the brontes, all of those people. and what is different in their world? it all goes alot slower. therein lies the basic difference. now, my theory is this, if love at first sight did exist, we've basically made it impossible for such a thing to come to fruition.

think about it. you see hundreds of people every day that you will never speak to, know their names, or even breathe the same air as. all you have to do is take a quick car trip and there, bang, thats a hundred people in under half and hour. and what if, as is very likely, one of those it that for which your soul hungers and all that? well, in a few seconds theyre gone, and thats that.

This is where you need to take initiative! I'm talking, find out who every person you ever meet *is* then, after intensely stalking them for a few months you can decide for yourself. Having said that, you really must close the kitchen blinds more often....

I think you've conclusively proved that modern society is in general bad for love. But then again, I've never believed in love at first sight. I think if love is going to last, it comes gradually, and its only later you think "holy shit! I'm in love!" Or maybe it'll be more poetic for you lot. Anyway, thats my two cents.

if you can have love at first sight, then surely you could have love from the other senses, like love at first smell, or love at first taste

That's a sentiment and a comment that has been made for quite some time now, perhaps best exemplified by when Dilbert meets the exact perfect woman for him in every way and hates her.
Also anyone who ever has tasted woman will know that there absolutely is "love at first bite"
